4x4 problem. Please help.
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport 2 door with a 4x4 problem. I saw some posts from 2003 with same issue but did not see a solution. My 4x4 lights will come on and flash in intervals of three flashes and wheels will tighten up on turns until about 20 min after drive time. Any suggestions? Is it a control module or fluid problem? How do I fix this.

first, are you putting your foot on the brake in neutral when shifting? If not, the light will flash until it finally locks in. The wheels will feel strange during a turn in 4x4 especially on dry pavement. Driving on dry pavement in 4x4 is definately a no-no. Damage can and will result.

under sharp turns, even without it being in 4x4, everything is still turning. The cv joints will only bend so much before it will get this "jerking" kind of thing going on. When locked in 4x4, the "jerking" will be even more pronounced.

I have a 98 awd and had the 4x4 blinking light problem. I cleaned both of the front and rear driveshaft speed sensors which are mounted on the T-case. I also replaced the shift motor. I have not had a problem since then. I did end up replacing the rear driveshaft speed sensor eventually when the blinking lights returned. I also replaced the T-case fluid with synthetic. The sensors can be cleaned by just wiping them. They are magnetic sensors.
