With dealers selling lifted trucks, roll bars, alarm systems, tires, and starting systems... who warrents these items or the truck in general? Some will say the dealer... but if one moves... does one dealer have to get reimbursed from the selling dealer? Ford corporate always makes the dealer be their eyes and ears and responsible for repairs and paperwork... so it would seem that if a dealer sells a new truck that in some way FMC is on the hook if the FMC approved dealer sold a new truck with "dealer installed" options????
Would seem to me that in this day and age of "CYA" that a buyer would want a written ademdum to the contract speling out that the "dealer installed options" are covered under the bumper to bumper warrenty and will be paid either by FMC or the dealer regardless of the dealer doing the repairs (in case someone moves).
Seems resonable to me in this day and age of FMC trying to limit their expopsure as well... so should the buyer of a truck with dealer installed components.
Jeff--If a dealer sells/installs A/M parts on a vehicle--it's the selling dealers responsibility to warranty it. I had this come up several times when I was in the bodyshop parts business. Sometimes it gets quite intense with management as to who pays, but it is the selling dealership. It is possible that a dealership will reimburse another if they are on good terms, but not usually.
