Torque converter stall speed

I'm about ready to pull the c-6 from my 85 F-250 6.9L and replace clutchplates, seals, looking into information concerning pump, oversize powerbands, torque converter. Am considering Gear Vendors OD in future, do some medium/heavy towing (10,000-15,000 on trailer) and have read about upgraded torque converters, and choosing stall speeds. Have no previous experience with transmissions, don't know how to decide on stall speed or what it means. Advantage to higher or lower stall speed? What is advantage to lock-up feature? Currently seems to run better and better as I learn from forum and fix oil leaks, air leaks, and the like, but very new to all this diesel stuff. If too involved to discuss here, can you direct me to website or books to study up on?

Love this forum, don't always understand it, but can't wait for a free day from building to work on my ever improving truck.

leeward,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Sorry I can not help you with an automatic tranny, but we have several members here that can.
