i have a 91 Bronco 5.8L and i have 2 questions. first what purpose does the smog pump serve? i live in tennesse and the emissions tests arent hard to pass (no cats and straight pipes) so does it really do anything. if not are there any benefits to taking it off and if so does anyone make an idler pully to replace it?
second on the passenger side of the engine compartment just below the battery there is a box. it has two caps on the top and one vaccum line going in from the throttle body and another line going out and down toward the bottom of the engine compartment. what is this box and what does it do? thanks for any help
The air pump injects air into the exhaust so it is dilluted better so the cats can work better. Don't know how hard it is to remove, because I can't remove it here in texas, because the inspector looks in the engine bay to see if emmissions equipment is there. As for the plastic box that is the vapor canister. The vapor canister collects vapors from fuel tank. When the truck is started the vapor purge selonoid activates and purges it of vapors.
