226 Alternator questions????

I was wondering what you fellow 226'ers used on your engines for charging setups? I'm working on putting mine on the road for a while, and somebody trashed the generator to put an alternator of some sort with no tension in the belt and a piece of wood and one bolt holding it on. Any help or tips would sure be appreciated. Thanks JOE

Look for a universal alternator brackets for an 8N Ford tractor. It was the best fit I could find.

If you want to go with 12V I have read that the '56 bracket will work with minor tweeking and then you can use a '56 generator too.

The PO had put a Ford Alternator on my 226, it looks like one off a Mustang. He took the orginal generator bracket modified it to accept the alternator, and was able to put the wide belt pulley off the generator on it also.

Thanks my stepdad has a few old mustang engines up at his house I'll go in the morning and see If one has an alt. Thanks 51Ford Fan
