Closed Cell Foam Sources
I know that you are not supposed to use regular open cell foam in areas exposed to moisture, but I can't locate a common source of the closed cell stuff.
Thanks,
Paul
I don't have any personal experience with them, but hey, it's a source!
Thanks a lot for the websites info!
I thought you could get it in spray cans.

Man, that'd be awesome! I'd pay to see a truck that looked like that inside. Not much, but I'd pay!
MD company which makes insulation sells it at many stores like HDepot, ACE, Lowes..
You can tell it's EPDM if it says, good to -40F as far as I can tell by experience.
Also the EPDM is a very excellant mixture of rubber product. It is used not only for weatherstripping but for roofing and other high exposure weather resistant uses.
I'm a retired analytical chemistry guy. It was great to find out about EPDM.
One article I read said that Silicone is better for the weatherstripping application. However it was a 'looking ahead' article and I don't think silicone is readily available as a weather stripping , yet. But silicone IS a great product too.
It's just that things like vinyl or other plastics / rubbers are no where near as good from my research as EPDM. There is no other common name for it as far as I can tell.
If you want more information please feel free to PM me.
EPDM comes in closed cell foam, as well as solid (or very tiny cells) and I don't know
much more about the forms it comes in except from what I've seen on the shelf.
If you buy the MD brand you can search froogle for the best prices. I found it at
Home Depot in 17 foot x 1 " wide strips for $8.25. It comes in other sizes too of course. That was the best value for the most material. It so happens I can slit that piece and I think use it for door weather stripping on my '56 F350. But don't take my word for it yet. I only think I can do it. I've not tried yet.
I have a document that's about 2 pages long of my research which includes links and notes for epdm. If you'd like it just pm me.
As always if anyone is wanting any kind of help with electronics, batteries, sciences of any kind, chemisty,
or research help I'm glad to assist. Just PM me and ask away!

EDIT: Oops. it looks like I didn't read the post very well. Sorry.
Well you learned something eh? About me. I don't read well.
Ok so the closed cell foam pads. Hmm. The EPDM IS very resiliant.
And the type used on roofs should be killer strong.
If you plan to put it down and put your foot on it I think that
you might want to use the kind of mats you find for reducing foot
fatigue for standing all day. They tend to be expensive.
The stores that have them are often office supply types. If you have a goodwill store and other thrift stores you can ask them to hold them for you if they should come in. Other ways to save money buying them is to
check out google then froogle for fatigue reducing floor mats.
