Yes... I go to Ford and get the Motorcraft limited slip additive. I put Mobile1 full syn 75W140 in the diff and 2 bottles (8 oz) of additive.
Thanks for the quick reply...quick thought, is that (8 oz) total or two (8 oz) bottles a piece to equal (16 oz). I prob made it more confusing, and looked into the answer to deep...but just making sure!

Thanks a bunch...I appreciate it!
8oz total. The bottles are 4oz each. I wasn't very clear. Good Luck and you will love those gears
Finally getting the swap to 4.56s next week...cant wait to post my own results! Quick question please...What weight lube, brand, etc do you all run? I definately want synthetic...75W140 has been a suggestion but I also I have had someone mention pretty much 90W gear oil. I dont know what FORD recommends, so looking for everyones personal experience and opinions! Thanks.
[QUOTE=STLBluesRams34]No gear swap here, but a big tire size change which effectively lowered my gear ratio to about 3.05. I have a 2001 Ford F-150 SuperCab 4x4 with 5.4. Stock I got 13mpg mostly city. I added a 6inch Fabtech Suspension lift and add-a-leaf in rear with 35 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claw tires on 16X10 M/T Classic II rims. After those mods I went upto 14mpg, thats an increase of 1 mpg (yes, I corrected mathematically for the increased tire size). Then I purchased a SuperChips Programmer and I run the 87 octane setting and Superchips shift points with my tire size properly programmed for my 35 inch tires. I now average 15mpg. Highway I average 19-20mpg if I keep it between 65 and 70mph. If I go 75mph it drops to 16.5-17mpg. If I do 80 I get closer to 18mpg. If I do 80-85mph I get 16mpg. I usually don't take it faster than that, but one time I did 90mph (emergency) for 25 miles and averaged 15.6mpg. All of these numbers are legitimate, believe it or not.
This is great info, I got the same setup except for the 6" lift and bigger tires, Im thinking of going 33 to 34" with the new 2" key lift and rear block I just instaLLED, i ALSO HAVE THE SUPERCHIP ..I;tll be good to get a little better miles per tank, I was worried I would lose gas milage..2001 5.4 lariat 4x4, K&N 57 series, cat exhaust microII super chip cant wait to get the wheels and tires..
Re-did my 2wd 2000 explorer last year. It had 4:10s and got a very consistant 18mpg.
I changed up to 3:27s and it gets an easy 22 and will do 24 if you drive it a little slower.
Wow budman thats sweeet, how much is it to change gearing in a F150 2001 lariat 4x4, Its got 3:55 stock, But Im putting 33" to 34"maybe a 35" if it fits ok, tires on it soon, and might be pulling my new inclosed 6x12 trailer with atv, dirt bikes loaded down soon, thinking of 3:73, wheres the best place for gear sets, or whats a good ratio for torque and decent milage, stock it gets 15 to 17 mph hi-way would like to stay close to stock..thanks..any info.
to figure what gear to run with larger tires to get get it back to stock ratio. take your (org. tire size 30" & divideby gear running 3.55 = 8.45) (now take younew tire size 35" & divideit by that 8.45 = new gear 4.14) round it to nearest gear made for this vehicle. (33s = 3.90, 34s = 4.02, 35s = 4.14 thats if your org. tire size was 30")

Hey bud, 3.73 will not be near enough gear if you are putting larger tires on the truck. If you put anywhere from a 33-35" tire...then upgrade to only 3.73 you will still be lower(numerically) than stock 3.55s. I have an 02 FX4 with 35s and stock 3.55 gears, dropped my ratio to below 3.20 doing the math. 4.56s go in next week. Keep this in mind...if you go larger tires to 35s per say, its gonna take a 4.10 rearend to be about the equal to a 3.73. If you go 4.56...your closer to an actual 4.10! Just mess around with the math from the formula the guy posted above...ive done all that myself to realize I want 4.56s! You dont want to waste your money on something you will barely notice!
Very true, thanks guys great info.noted...Its got me thinking not to go so big..right now maybe a size or two...The truck runs and pulls pretty good stock..265/70R/16..My tires are worn out and need new ones...decisions decisions..thanks
