Time capsule in Tulsa, OK 1957

I was listening to 'The Motor Man' radio show this morning. He talked about the Tulsa Oklahoma time capsule which was buried underneath the front lawn of a building in June of 1957. It's scheduled to be dug up and opened on June 15, 2007.

They buried a brand new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere inside! That's the largest time capsule I have ever heard about. Apparently the townspeople at that time were able to submit a guess as to what the population of Tulsa would be in 2007 and whomever came the closest, their relatives would win the car when it's unearthed.

They also buried oil and gasoline inside, just in case there was none in 2007! The Cold War had a very strong effect on people.

It should be very interesting to see what condition the car is in after all these years underground. I don't know what else is in there, but the car is a great idea!

Unless they had a way to prevent moisture from being buried with it ..It'll be a rust bucket within a few months.

I assume they only let people under age 20 submit a guess as most 30+ year olds would be buried or close to a burial themsleves
