I have a 99 explorer. the other day I started it and the check engine came on and it started chiming (five times then stops and starts again). Now when I start it no chech engine light comes on but still chimes (will chime the set then stop and repeat a few more time, never counted how many tho.) I called an auto place and they said with no light that they will not get a code......
any ideas on what the problem could be?
thanks

WEll no luck. I took it and it came up "PASS No Code R???" Don't recall what the last word was, but in short didn't come up with any code. It still chimes at me (five times then stops and starts again...for a total of like 3-4 sets). All my gages seem to be working right, CEL has not came back on since the first time....
Any ideas now?
thanks!!!!

Did that yesterday when I changed the oil......
Do you think because it is still chiming after that, that something is wrong? I was begining to think my wiring is just shot.
My seatbelt light comes on but goes off just as soon as I put it on, normally it is off (I have clicked it) before the chiming starts. No other lights come on...just the first time the CEL came on, but now nothing, just the chiming
Thats it problem SOLVED!!!! When we bought the explorer the airbag light was on. we took it to an electical place, they told us it was the sensor would not stay conected and there was making the light go off (or on, however you want to state it) So we have just left it, well now NO light but chimes!! It doesn't do it every half hour tho. But all the rest fits!!
Thanks a million everyone!!!! I will talk with the dealer to make sure its all on the up and up still tho.

Hello, I'm normally on the Aerostar forum, but I'm troubleshooting the same problem on my daughters 2000 Mountianeer. Where is the sensor located so that I can check the connector? Thanks in advance for your help!
