Rare Find?

Driving through town tonight, I spotted a good lookin' Ford at my favorite used truck dealer.

Stopped in for a peek, and noticed that it was a 1989 F-350 7.3L/ZF5 Regular Cab/Long Wheel Base.

This truck HAD to have been a "mom and pop" rig. It has 93k original miles on it, and it's PERFECT. Only thing other than factory is the diamond plate running boards (from rear of front wheel cutout to front of rear wheel cutout), diamond plate bed-side protectors, aluminum rails, and a B&W 5th-wheel hitch.

I'm guessing they only used it for pulling a camper.

He's asking $5995. I wish I had a use for it. Not useful to me though, being 2WD.

Something I don't see alot of is regular cab F-350's. It's one of a few that I've seen in my life.

Thought I'd share this with ya'll.

Yep.. that's called a work truck, a concept COMPLETELY LOST on all the auto dealers these days. If you want something similar now, it would have to be special ordered!!

10-fer on the work truck!

It was a very nice rig indeed.

BTW, as far as regular cab F-350's go, I know of two that I've seen...

My cousin has an '86 F-350 regular cab/dually, and the '89 regular cab/dually F-350 I saw last night.

I see several regular cab 350's around, but never with the factory 8'-bed and dual wheel fenders on them. The only regular cabs I see have the dual wheels with flatbeds or utility boxes on them.

i dont know why the dealers stock these shlushie pickups, leather interiors, ect...if they would go back to the hard waring carhert like fabric for the seats and offer the F-150/250 with a good solid manual T-case even if not the manual hubs but the auto locker type, and a STICK SHIFT! i have yet to see an 06 or newer 5 or 6 speed F-150, ives seeen them in the 250/350 but not the half tons. hit to the boys in R&D at Ford...think back to basics, stronger sheet metel and good all terrain tres from the factory, BF Goodrich A/T's or M/T's or better

Manuals are done from what I've been told at dealer only can get on base 6 cyl models . I don't know why there is a waiting list for used manuals at 3 of the big dealers im my area. They sell before they get them. Guess thats why the SD 's are so popular now allways 3 or 4 out of 20 are manual and don't sit long. The truck you described sounds sweet.

I'm debating on going tomorrow and picking her up...

Are 350's REAL heavy in the rear? Thought about throwing on a set of the biggest Maxxis Buckshot's I could find for optimum traction, as long as there's enough weight in the rear end to put the pressure on those knobby rubbers...

I'll need something good that'll go in the ice and snow to replace my 4x4.

well my dad ran a 2WD Dodge half ton for YEARS in the horrible upste NY winters and granted it wasne't as good as my 4x4 with M/T's all way around, but he never got stuck. and all he had for tires was a set of old stle snow tires, deep lugged and heavy. the buckshotts are better. if your worried about weight toss some tube sand bags in the back

You get snow and ice in Dixie? Really? hard to believe but if so, let me give you some advice about winter driving. A 2wd reg cab pickup is all but useless, and if you must use one DO NOT put big wide mud tires on it. You want skinny snow tires best case, or skinny ATs that have a lot of sipes in the tread and no large blocks. Something like the Bridgstone Dueler AT REVO sized to give a 7" wide tread.

Yup, we ocassionally get snow and ice here in Dixie.

It's unfortunate, but it happens.

Also, the 4x4 I have comes in doggone-handy around my muddy farm. The cows have to be fed and the crops have to be looked after, even if it is raining!

I ain't gonna give up my 4x4. That "Rare Find" will just have to go.
