Block Heater

This is the first winter with my baby, and my first winter with a diesel period. What types of temps does it get down to before you start plugging it in? Is the engine block heater already there from the factory, you just have to install a pigtail to plug it in? Any input would help as its starting to dip into the 40's around here. Thanks!

The block heater is there... The question is whether you have the $35 Block Heater option which is actually just the cord... If you do, then follow the instructions to find the cord in the linked thread-->https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...ml#post3125172

If you don't have the cord, you can obtain it at your Ford dealer, Home Depot/Lowes or local Electrical supplier. I usually plug it in when it gets below 32 degrees F. Good luck

I'm pretty sure I don't have the option, as a matter of fact, I don't even remember the option being there when I ordered my truck. So, assuming I don't have one, what do I need to get from Lowes/H.D. and where do I connect it to the engine? Thanks!

You can get the cord cheaper at an International dealer than at a Ford dealer. I believe the only difference is the one from Ford comes with the plastic 'cord protector' and the pins to secure it. I just used tie wraps to install the one I got from International.

Not sure about getting a cord from HD/Lowes. The female end on the cord doesn't look like anything I have seen at the home centers.

It's fairly easy to install a cord. In fact, it just might be easier installing one than FINDING the one installed at the factory.

Ford sells the cord for around $100 and IH for around $18.00 Difference noted below. See my gallery for pics of the install.
