ive got a 96 and was wondering if there was a way to raise the transfer case, it hangs way low, was wondering if there would be any adverse affects of taking the bolts out turning it up higher and then bolting it back up??
Is ground clearance an issue now? Are you hitting the case? I doubt that you would clear the front drive shaft, if you were to re-index the case. The re-clocking of the case would cause the front shaft to bind, and possibly hit the transmission. If your case is too low, maybe you should consider a lift kit for the whole truck. This would solve your ground clearance issues for more than just the case. Most guys re-clock the cases down to decrease driveline angles, I am afraid moving it up would require much, much modification, without a substantial reward.
i hadnt even thought about the front driveshaft, and i like to try and keep them as close to the ground as possible and get more lift from the tire than the suspension, dont get me wrong the look good big, but if your axles cant clear it your just as screwed, i will have to take a look though to see if my drive shaft will clear,
and yes i have bounced the t-case skid plate off a bunch of stuff, and its now getting pretty close to the t-case itself
The axle argument, I agree with, but that is assuming that the obstacle is not very wide, and both tires miss it altogether. This would leave the center of the vehicle subject to dragging. This is why the lift kit, and larger diameter tires solve more than one problem. Although, they do create other, I will admit. I guess it is just a matter what suits your style.
I still believe that your proposal would only be slightly beneficial. (assuming that it will even work) The next thing to drag, will be the frame, and then the rear shaft. Without good clearence in all of these areas, you are gonna high center, and get stuck anyway.
