are multiple coils welcome here???
Since the standard coil recieves 12 volts from the system to boost then would the coil burn outif it were fed 30,000 volts at the distributor, to refeed to the spark plugs. It would be easiest to leave the ignition as it is: The original coil energising the distributor cap. 30,000 volts to each spark plug.
How much voltage can a standard automotive ignition coil tolerate??? If a standard coil can tolerate 30,000 volts incoming will that coil/will EACH coil boost that 30,000 volts or at least leave it at 30,000 (a little voltage is lost at the rotor??) then it should work to attach a separate coil to each spark plug connection at the distributor cap and let these new coils feed the spark plugs???
HOPE I MADE SENSE! If this is the wrong forum PLEASE redirect me....THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!
you're talking about setting up something like the newers corvettes have. individual coil packs for each cylinder, i didnt even know there were after market parts like these to add to a vehicle that came with a standard ignition.
why not just add a high output coil to your standard ignition system, although without any other addons it wouldnt do much.
not to sure about the 6 cyl, but for the 302 the aftermarket is huge. im sure any mustang guy with a hot 302 is running something like a msd igniton box, blaster coil and low resistance plug wires.
theres really no need to add a high tech multi coil system to a low tech 302, when the aftermarket is full of standard style ignition componets.
not trying to put down your idea but it seems like a lot of work for not much[if any] of a gain.
maybe put a post in the small block forum or general engine building forum about your idea, maybe someones already done this, good luck.
I could do better here but I want to be concise: My budget and income ARE pathetic so the best I can do is go after bare basic parts. I do simply believe in as much effieciency and performance as possible.
SO rather than invest in HIGH TECH coils if I can get away "with" I will: purchase for my 302 8 more standard ignition coils, connect them to the distributor contacts where the spark plugs would go, THEN CONNECT those coils EACH to their sparkplugs. The rotor would simulate breaker points or that "start wheel".
So you recommend mustang groups huh............AHHHHHH thank you REFERALLS!!!
