Remote start

O k here goes, I bought a remote start for my 06. Now from what I hear, to install it is a pain to deal with the VATS system. A guy had told me that when he did his, he had his spare key and just cut the key part off, just had the black key head remaining, and taped it to the top of the column, and just continued on with the regular install. He claims it worked, as the VATS will see the key there and the remote start will work. Does this sound right?
Thanks
Rich

Yup, you can do that to fool the PATS system. But if you ever need to program some new keys you've got a problem. OR, you can buy a PATS bypass on ebay or at the dealer for under $30...Which system did you get? I've been thinking of getting one for my new '06. I had the Prestige system in my '01 and was pleased with it for the first two years. Then it started failing, probably b/c the installer used t-taps. Make sure the installer (or you) use proper wire splicing technique, preferably a military splice.

I will have to look, but I think it's by Autocommand or something like that. T-Taps shoud be outlawed. I have done my share of car audio over the years and those taps always fail. Nothing is better than a soldered connection.
