I get a severe low speed shimmy when I hit a bump below 20 mph
I have to almost come to a complete stop before it quits. All stock steering components, everything is tight, king pins are fair tire pressure 75 and equal, bias tires
Check your toe in, and if its within specs add a bit more toe in to it. Awhile back I ended up with the deaath wobble after I tweaked my tie rod. It was bent down quite a bit. I put a floor jack under it and straightened it back out. After that I had the death wobble (when I staightened the tie rod it caused me to have less toe in than I was supposed to have) I did some quick measurement, adjusted the tie rod and the old truck drives straight and true now
Cool,
I'm not sure what the specs are (I've slept a few times since then) but I'm guess it anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4" total toe in. These old trucks can take quite a bit, heck 1/2" total toe in isn't going to hurt ya
I don't claim to be an expert, but I used to get the death wobble all the time. Without making any adjustments to toe-in or caster the wobble disappeared when I replaced my tires and balanced the wheels. I've put several hundred miles on the truck since then without getting the wobble once. (before tire replacement I got it nearly every time I drove the truck)
I think the wobble is a combination of a number of factors and if you correct at least one of them, you are liable to eliminate the problem (at least temporarily).
