C-6 problem
How many miles on it?
Has the intermediate (2nd) band ever been readjusted?
Slip more when hot than cold?
Color of fluid and does it smell burnt?
Above the shift lever is a jam nut and band adjusting stub.
With the tranny cold loosen jam nut then turn in the stub, tighten to 10 ft/lbs torque, don't over torque as it flexes the case for a false adjustment, back out 1 turn, 71-72 1 1/2 turns, hold stub and tighten jam nut 35-45 ft/lbs torque. This is out of a 1972 Chilton's manual specs.
The jam nut has sealing material to seal threads and case, a one shot or use nut that should be replaced to prevent a oil leak.
If you go below these specs you have a chance of two gear ratios fighting each other causing wear and heat.
With my custom built trans that has a forged steel band the torque is 15 inch/lbs then backed out 3/4 turn minimum.
I bought it and now I'm putting a motor back in it, so I can see how the trans. acts
The person who owned it before me told me this was what it was doing
Oh yeah the trans. is in an 1984 F-150 I'm not sure if its the original but its most likely close to that year

Remove the pan and check for debris.
There is a "snap" band that can be installed without removal of the transmission.
Provided the drum surface is good.
