Throttle Assembly

I have a 2004 F-150 SuperCrew with 38,000 miles and just out of warranty. Last week I was driving and I lost all acceleration ability. The engine continued to idle, but depressing the gas pedal did nothing. All other vehicle functions remained operational.

I had it towed to the dealership and their diagnosis was that the computer had told the truck to disengage the throttle, but did not know why. However, the throttle assembly worked properly when tested, and they could not make the computer replicate its code. The technician contacted the Ford Hotline and was told that other customers have reported this same issue. The hotline's response to the other customers was to replace the throttle assembly and that was their recommendation again this time...to the tune of $500!

I called the Hotline and they agreed to cover half the cost since I was just beyond my warranty, so it wound up costing me $246 and the loss of my truck for a week. Problem is, I don't know if the throttle assembly was even the problem, and if it was not then I replaced a perfectly good one, spent alot of money to do it, and still have a ghost problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Assume so, since dealership said they ran all diagnostics.
