My dilema is whether to do some bolt ons to my 05 F250 with the 5.4 or get a v10. I am not real happy with the power from my 5.4 for towing etc.. I tow a bobcat/landscape trailer, plow etc.. all around work/personal truck. I was thinking of doing a chip of some sort, maybe exhaust and changing to 4.30 gears eventually, already have k+n. Would I just be better off putting the money to a new F250 with a v10?
The way I see it is this...I can put money in my current F250 w/ the 5.4L and keep it. OR I can trade it in on a V10 or a diesel and get raped with the price I will get with for the 5.4L. Yes a V10 is only about $600 more orginally but it will end up costing you at least $3K more since you already have a 5.4L. Add another $3K on to that for a diesel. I am putting the money in the 5.4L. But let me add this...I don't think you will ever get V10 or diesel like performance from the 5.4.
thanks for the replys, I dont really want to go the supercharger route its one more thing I have to maintain. Since I already own the truck and have paid the depreciation, sales tax, etc.. I am thinking I will go with the bolt on type mods. The next one will have more cubic inches though
The V10 with lower gears would be the best route to go. But you are going to loose $$$$ on a trade-in. For this reason going from the V8 to the V10 will (in a round about way) cost you a lot more than just $600.
The only way to see a big performance gain out of the 5.4L is to go a lot lower gears, NOS, or a supercharger. Pro-charger makes a 2 core supercharger for the new 5.4L 3-valve and they say it will give a 60+% gain in hp.
All other mods will give you some kind of hp gain but I think you will still be dissapointed.
As far as changing to 4.30 gears, if your going to spend the money - I would go lower than that. Bigger BANG for the buck.
Keep in mind that if you add bigger tires it will lower the already low performance you have now.
By the way - if you do very much mods to it, your warranty will be void.

any idea what kind of money a procharger supercharger goes for?
i agree with everyone else...the v10 is a powerhouse and the 5.4 is only a average motor when it come to TOWING...i do no towing so the v10 would be complete overkill for me since i love the sound of my v8...diesel would just be stupid for me...if you go to trade it in now you are going to get completly beat up on the negative equity...i would say get an exhaust and call troyer and have them hook you up on a super chip...if you really tow that frequentley i would say go get youself a set of 4.56 and call it a day...throw and chip and exhaust on there and go ahead and get yourself a whipple supercharger and im sure you wont be dissapointed any more.....(the supercharger was just a joke)...seriously if you get 4.56 gears i think that itll make a HUGE HUGE difference

TOO MUCH!!!
My point being that it will take a lot of mods to really wake that motor up to make that SD move. Adding 100 hp to a SD is nothing like adding 100 hp to an F-150 (power to weight ratio).
I was quoted a little over $4K for the procharger. It was a plan before I even ordered the truck, so I am probably going to go ahead and do it. I don't even know how the 3 valve 5.4 runs, as I won't take delivery of the truck for another hour and a half. Ohhhhhhh, am I anxious!
