The alt you have should have the amperage stamped on the case.
There were many variations.
40 amp was the most popular.
for 78's
40 amp
60 amp
70 amp
90 amp
Unfortunately I missed it when I scanned this chart below.
The higher amp alts went on trucks with power draining options or camper /trailer specials
ie: A/C
I bet money that you have a 40 or 60 amp.
