I have a 90 f150 with 4.9L. I was wondering if these have a cam or crank position sensor, where it's located and will that keep the truck from starting? My wifes jeep recently had same symptoms and it was the crank sensor.

Yes it has a cam position sensor (AKA PIP sensor).
But I would look at the TFI module first as this is the problem most of the time.

The TFI module is your Ignition Module and is mounted on the side of the distributor.

on later models, 92 and up, it is located on a heat sink in engine compartment on driver's fender.
