IFS For 1948-50 F1 & F2

If anyone is interested I have found an easy IFS swap in for 1948 to 1950 Ford F1 & F2. I am using the front clip from a Jaguar XJ6,fits exactly. Track width is perfect and it gives you power steering and disks, brings the truck nice and low.Custom Car magazine here in the U.K. published details on fitting one to a ch*** truck. It works the same for the Ford.

Alex Dixie

this front end fits well under the 53-56 F100's also. I have a street rodder friend who has installed these with good results. It is like a Mustang II on steroids. You can get parts from Moog to repair them also. The Truck of the Year for 2000 had this front end under it.

Will the IFS work, without modifications, on a '51 or '52? If not, why?

I am not familiar with the Jag crossmember but I do know that the 48-52 Ford F1 has a frame width that is two inches narrower than the 53-56 in the front. Some carful measurements would tell you if this is a feasible swap for the earlier Fords.

Alex, I would have replied sooner but been out of town. I would appreciate a scanned copy of the October 2000 article on installing Jaguar front clip on 1950 F1.

Oh this is too much. Just this past weekend I started dismantling an XJ6 to make room for my grandfathers 49 ford pu and an additional 49 parts truck.
I really would like a copy of this article. I can see the parts truck with the jag motor/tranny, bucket seats, gages, and rear axle. Too cool I got the parts and I could save all the ford stuff for restoring my grandfathers truck.

WOW!

The article is "Independence Day" in the October 2000 issue of Custom Car. Copies are 3.45 (pounds not dollars). You can email a credit card # or fax it to this # - 01959 541400. I got this info from Hilary Landon at kelsey.co.uk

Good Luck,
Chuck

Hi,

Yes I am in the UK, but I no longer own the truck.I sold it to another enthusiast. There are a few 48/50 F1's and 2's in the UK.I've spoken to the owners. If you need any info or help I did build up loads of info and pictures.

Regards,

Alex
