i have a 99 4 x 4 , when accelerating, sometimes it runs great, other times it misses but still accelerates, and other times it accelerates like its a 4 cylinder or like i am pullin my boat, I have already changed the plugs and wires, and tonight i am going to change the power ( coil ) packs and fuel filter, if anyone has any other ideas what it could b, i would appreciate any info.
Those coilpacs offered by PerfDist Iignition are a BARGAIN! I paid $48 each for two replacement pacs that have only a nominally decent spark. Wish i had bought theirs.
Another acceleration problem I had was a poor seal inside a plug tube. Without a seal, moisture got inside and rust formed inside the tube. The rust got onto the new plug wires (on #6 cylinder) that I had installed, and although they were better than the olde plug wires, there was still a slight miss as the rust (iron oxide) was conducting the spark away from the plug.
After noticing the damp rust on the end of the #6 plugwire, I cleaned the plugwire, sprayed down the tube with WD-40 and blew the loose rust out with compressed air and resealed the plug boot.
Acceleration is restored and economy is back up.

well i changed the coil packs and the fuel filter, thought it was fixed, then after driving for some time here comes that miss again, only for a min. or two, then back to normal again for a while. I stopped by autozone twice and had them hook it up to the computer and nothing comes up. NO CODES. damn i am confused, but changes things and getting no results can get expensive quick. does anyone have any ideas??????? Help !!

i have been reading other peoples posts on here that have similar problems, does anyone think my problem could be bad COP boots or a weak fuel pump, and are the fuel pumps still located in the gas tank, in a 99 f 150 4x4 ?
ok i changed plugs and wires last night and i think it is fixed, the reason i hesitated on that is because i just done that last year, but thanx for all the input, i appreciate it.
it sounds like these ford spark plugs are a little touchy. Some people i've talked to say dont even buy the platinums, just by the regular $1.29 plugs because the platinums wont last you any longer! hmm...
