Is it for some sort of hydraulic system?

It looks like a bunch of air compressors, or maybe 2 cylinder engines?

What I find sadly ironic, (apart from choosing an old Jag or skoda engine) they couldn't have picked more unreliable "alternate" engines...

Yes, they are motorcycle engines, and they are just mounted in the bed, not functional. With my opinions on GM, I made a joke about "alternate power source"!!
