Rear Main Seal Question?

I just got a bunch of work done on my 1976 Ford F150 and the mechanic told me my Rear Main Seal is also leaking. I looked up the part and it is only like a $20 gasket set. I am not very mechanical, but is this a tough fix? Is there any reason I couldn't fix it myself? Thanks for the helful info and tips!

I have a 460 engine in this truck. This is a pretty major job huh? What can I expect to pay to have it done? Thanks for the help!

I think with the 460 it's easier to pull the engine to do the RMS. It's one of those dollar waiting on a dime jobs. Most shops should be able to tell you the book rates for that job but it's mostly all labor as you have found with the $20 gasket and seal set. Some can do them with the engine in but it does not sound easy. I've never done it at all. A shop is probably getting 6-8 hours I'd guess.
