I have a 97 extended cab with the six disc cd changer, located where the fourth door would be. Has anyone removed this changer? Mine has crapped out , and I need to remove it to replace it. I think I need to remove the surrounding panels, but I don't want to break anything. If any of you guys can help, I'd appreciate it!
Yes you need to remove the trim panel from around the CD changer.
It's been a long time since I've had one of those off. The main thing is to be careful when you're pulling it....sometimes the clips hang on pretty tight.
Depending where you buy the new cd changer from some places offer free installation on it. Best Buy for example offers this as a sale item. Just watch their ads and you wouldn't even have to mess with it.
