Ok so far i tried most of the things you guys suggested. I drained the tranny fluid to the corrct level on my 92 F150 auto e4od. checked and cleaned my wires to the tranny, adjusted to shift linkage as discribed in the manual, and still have the same problem. I have reverse but when i put her in drive it does nothing, in second nothing, and in first it some what goes in, but when i give it the fuel it doesnt take off, just rolls ahead slowly. Oh yeah i also unhooked a line to see if the pump was workin, and yes fluid shot out. I can also hear a bit of whinning when she warms up. Please give me some of your best insights. Thanks for your time.
Okay fellas, I took the codes and they were 6-3-6 small pause 6-3-6 long pause 1 long pause 4-5-3 small pause 452 small pause 6-3-4 small pause 4-5-2 small pause 6-3-4 any suggestions?
well I got it workin for now, changed the mlps, map sensor. tps, and the od cancel switch. they were all giving bad codes. of couse i didnt go new though, just scrap yard parts. the tranny isnt the best, and like you fellas said, the pump is probly on the outs. At least i can drive it for now, hopfully ill get some cash for a replacement. Why did they make such a crappy tranny? go figure!
thats one thing that ford has been infamous for in its past 20 years is making weak trannys. It took them awhile to get the 4-speed automatic down, and even that isn't perfect from factory (but what is). However, these trannys do have huge potential, with the right updated parts (valve body, torque converter, pump, etc.) these too can be built to become damn near bulletproof like a stock C6. Ahh back in the day.
i read some documents from ford, it all boils down to the cooling system. the e4od is a good tranny, but it must be kept cool. the poor design of having it cooled through the main radiator was a design flaw. lots of guys go to a hayden aux cooling system, around $60 for everything you need, and the trannys perform right and last.
Yup they do over heat alot. My buddy installed one of those inline coolers it helped, but in the end his tranny pump gave uot. He was told that his cooler did was the guilty party because the pump had to adjust to the extra presure. Idont know if thats the actual facts but his tranny is shot either way.
