For most, it won't just be a simple weekend job. You're looking at swapping the transmissions, installing a new set of pedals and a master cylinder, clutch and slave cylinder. You might also need to do some minor trimming to the floor pan for a shifter.
It will probably cause the computer to trip the check engine light since the sensors and computer controlled shift actuators will no longer be present. As stupid as this might sound, that might cause problems when it comes time to have your truck smog tested. Smog laws are written by folks who don't really know cars and especially in California, you're probably dealing with people who don't care why the check engine light is on. If its on, you fail. So you might be looking at getting a new EEC as well just to clear that obstacle.
From experience, I'm here to tell you that it can be done, but it is not an easy job (or a quick one). It would make life a whole lot easier if you have a parts truck at your disposal. Like Bart99GT said, you even have to install the clutch pedal and be ready to swap the computers out. You will have to discontinue the cooling lines to the radiator or swap that out too. I'm not sure if the frame cross members are the same or not. It was a big job, even in the old days, before on board computers. It would be quite pricey too, (Unless you can find a wreck at a reasonable price) I just paid almost $300.00 for a clutch replacement kit for my ranger. After doing all that work, I would not want to put in used clutch parts. If it were me, I would seriously consider swapping vehicles instead. Good luck.
