Why do I still continue to Google Ford information when I have the greatest source for Ford techincal knowledge in the world right here? Anyway, I was hoping someone could give me or point me to the torque specs for a Dana 80 LS with 4.10 gears for my '99 F350 DRW, 7.3L? My local mechanic is correcting a problem with my differential caused by him not torquing the pinion properly (see my post "Rear Diff noise!" from yesterday). Since he didn't get it right the first time I plan on being there when it gets reassembled to make sure he doesn't guess again. I'd like to have the torque specs for all components in the Differential (the only thing I could find on the Pinion nut said the one for the Dana 80 gets torqued to 440 ft lbs!, how do you lock the rear in place so you can get that much torque?) and also the axle bolts, U-joint retaining bolts and diff.cover bolts. Any thoughts on how long the ATV should set up before putting fluid in? Lock tight on the bolts (blue or red)? Any other information you think might be helpful is always welcome. Thanks again guys. If you can't find the answer to your question here there probably is no answer.

They make a tool which holds the yoke to tq the pinion nut.
My tool looks just like a BIG pipe wrench with a cheater pipe wedged
up against the frame rail
Pinion pre-load is very important! If the pre-load is not correct there's a
good chance the set-up will fail again!
Red loc-tite, ring gear bolts, cap bolts & a dab on the pinion nut never hurt.
ATV for the diff cover, I lay a clean bead on cover never touch it, let it set for 5min's
then install cover, I add oil as soon as I'm done.
If your installing all new bearings chances are all the stock shims should be fine
for pre-load and backlash, but both need to be checked!
New gears require a complete new set-up, lockers only need to set backlash...usally.
4 things, pinion pre-load, backlash, gear pattern, correct tq on all bolts.
BTW I always add ATV to outter edge of the pinion seal to help ensure no leaks.
