ok, i am still new here, but have searched so please read and see if you can help.
what i am experiencing in my truck is strange, and i only noticed it today for the first time.
i was merging in traffic to get on the highway and basically the truck did not want to go anywhere....the RPMs bounced b/t 2,000 and about 2,400 and the truck was not accelerating and stayed steady at about 40mph..there was distinct 'bucking' feel and pardon me if this sounds weird, but it felt like the truck was undecided if it wanted to down shift to accelerate........if i backed off the throttle a little, it seems fine...it is only when i aggressively get on the throttle (which is never) and happened all the way to and from my destination....tried cutting the truck off and on so on....
trukc is an '04 fx4 supercrew 54K on the clock with extended warranty....i plan on taking it in soon for the cam phaser and also for a non functional cruise control.....
i swear i am about ready to ditch this truck already and get a diesel....
just wanted to know if any of you guys had experienced anything similar....?
Mike Troyer of Troyer Performance addressed a similar problem to yours.
Next time you want to punch it to merge, use the OD on/off button to drop out of OD and punch it. The pcm has a programmed delay when doing downshifts especially 4 - 2 downshifts. He is of the opinion you are stressing the trans if you don't do this. I have tried it;works great.
I had something similar. It was an engine misfire. They put new plugs in the truck and it fixed the problem. Be careful when removing the plugs if there is too much carbon build up the electrode might end up being stuck in the head. I would pay the extra amount to have the Ford dealership do it, there is a procedure for removing the plugs based off from a TSB.
It could be the TPS (throttle position sensor) need to be recalibrated.
There is a procedure you can do yourself. Something like...
1. Turn key to on (dont start engine)
2. press accelerator pedal to the floor and release it.
3. Turn key off for 4-5 seconds.
4. Turn key on and crank engine. Test it.
Not sure if this is the problem, but others report hesitation etc problems and this has fixed their woes.
