a/c gremlins
a/c gremlins
I was wondering if i should post but i can't seem to figure this one out. my a/c works intermittently when it works it works good then other times it is just blowing cool air but not cold. I recall a recent trip cruising about 80mph down the highway and we were sweating with it on full blast. but as soon as i pulled off the highway and the rpm's dropped below 2k it started freezing us out. it is very irratic (and i noticed my factory fogs recently also don't work) is this a harness problem or do you think the temp module is bad? i don't really care for this digital unit it seems like too much technology for a simple thing. thanks
it may be low in refrigerant or you could have a clutch issue whether it is air gap or a bad field coil. if you can get it to do it, look and see if the clutch is coming on or check cycle times. its probably still warm in florida huh?

but i will check into that. has there been any of the "modules" that go bad or for lack of better term "the climate control unit". I guess 100 dollars to have them diagnose it would be worth it. there is only 1 week a year i think we don't need a/c LOL
thanks
you must have esp warranty. the more humid the harder the system has to work due to moisture in the air. the only problems i have seen with eatc heads on these is the fact they just quit working and wont power back on.

I like the low refrigerant idea. You'd notice a low refrigerant situation more when the engine's turning faster, because the compressor can pull down more on the low side faster when it's turning faster.
The thing where it dumps to defrost is another thing that happens on these, too. Ford has a TSB on that, which you can find along the top bar here. I don't think that would be intermittant, though.
If it's low refrigerant, that'll be picked up easily by anyone with an A/C manifold set. It'll draw down the low side too far and trip your low pressure safety switch, which will cut the compressor out. The cycling is it riding the limit of that switch.
