My dads looking for a new set of tires for his 01 f250, and i figured id help him out by asking yall. He has the 265x75r16 firestone steeltex at's that came stock on the truck, he's got about 45k miles on them now, theres still a good deal of tread left on them, but he wants to put new tires on it before he has to pull our 34 foot 5th wheel out of town. the question is what tires would yall recomend?what are some decent 10ply all terrains that do pretty well in ice and snow(he's probably traveling up north for work)does alright off road, he doesnt get crazy he just needs something to get him around at the hunting camp, and wear pretty good. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks,
does anybody have any first hand experience with the terra grapplers, I have two trucks with with bfg at's, i like em but i dont know if my dad wants to spend 170 bucks a tire, he keeps telling me im crazy for buying 200 dollar tires, so i think he'll like the nittos better, as long as there arent many drawbacks to them.
i thought i saw them for 170 at the tire rack but i guess i wasnt looking at 265s. I havent ever had my bfg ats in the snow but i assume they work pretty well? Any one with info on the nittos?
Toyo M55's are a tough tire especially if your running on gravel roads. The longevity is not great but they are TOUGH. I have had great luck with BFG AT TA's
Also have the BFG's. Honestly, probably as happy with them as any LT tire I've had before. I also like the features on the Terras, and I consistantly hear people with happy comments about the Toyo M55's. So, in my head, those are the top 3 for LT tires when I start thinking about them.
When you get into an E rated tire the cost does go up, and while its frustrating, it's life, getting what you pay for cliche and all that. I think so long as you're not perpetuating domestic violence on your tire, the E rated tire will probably last longer as well. They typically inflate at higher pressures and some of the time are even made with a slightly different compound.
Or you could get real froggy and go up to a commercial tire. You can get direct bolt on rims or adapter kits that convert an 8 to a 10 lug. Not a huge fan of adapters in theory, but it is possible. And I do like what the higher end tires have to offer. They cost more upfront but over their life if you dollarise things to a pennies per mile figure the bang for the buck is in buying commercial. And if he's doing a lot of trailering, maybe he'd think that was worthwhile.
I like my Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. Excellent tire in inclement weather. Still reasonably quiet on the highway. They are expensive, but well worth the money in my opinion. I have had several sets of Bf Goodrich All Terrain T/A. These are hands down a better tire than the T/As
i think he is realizing now that tires are going to cost much more than he expected, this is his second SD, but only the first set of tires he's had to buy for them(he totaled his 99 will about 40k miles on it). but, if he can get some good tires for a little cheaper he'll jump all over them.
