HELP! Two days ago my battery light came on? Not sure what this means, but following that the engine started skipping, kinda like a misfireing cylinder? I checked under the hood and found the EV-233 valve vibrating/chattering real bad. One end of that EV-233 goes into the top of the valve cover (1999 5.4L F250 sd) the other end heads off towards the back of the engine and pulls one heck of a vaccum? Any ideas what might be the cause of all this?
Battery lights are typically indicitive of alternator/battery problems. If you have the stock battery, change it and get it out of the way. Next check your battery voltages, at idle something like 13.6 is normal, rev the motor to 2K and you should notice a 0.2-0.6 volt increase. The increase means your alt is working ok. Next look at your grounds, battery, chassis and motor. The connections should be a little dull because of age, make them shinny.
The valve your referencing could be PCV. If it is sucking alot of fresh air, it should throw a code and possibly kill the motor. Spray some starting fluid or wd40 around the valve/hose, if the motor revs up replace the hose, gasket, whatever is leaking. Work on one problem at a time.
Thanks for the help! I replaced all 8 plugs and one ignition coil. That fixed the engine skip. I think the battery light problem is the alternator, I'll tackle that issue later this week.
