Hi I have a 1994 F250 Turbo Diesel.
Today when I went to start it all it would do is a CLICK
Power is there....glow plugs tick...wait light goes off....then .. CLICK
There's lots of juice...even tried jumping it..still just the solid "CLICK"
Then I tried using a screw driver and jumping the POLES at the solinoid...lots of "SPARK" but nothing...then again...I'm not sure I'm even doing it right.
I think the same thing !
It died at work last night , I work the graveyard shift
I was kind of hoping to save myself the towing charges but I don't think that's going to happen ..
I'll try hammering on the Starter at work tonight..see if that will at least get it going.
You have two solenoids on the engine.
One is starter mounted, the other is mounted on the inner fender.
Using a short piece of wire jump from the front big post to the rear big post on the fender mounted solenoid. If it cranks the upper solenoid is gone.
If it still clicks you have a bad starter, bad connections on the batteries, bad batteries, one bad battery or corroded connections on the block or starter.
There, I narrowed it down to only 7 things that could be the problem.
Thanks once again Dave !
Ok then I did do it right ... there was SPARK but it did NOT crank over.
We can also eliminate the Batteries they are only 1yr old.
The Battery Cable is also only 6 months old.
So my game plan .. go into work tonight with a few tools and tighten everything and check the connections.
There was no corrotion on any terminals on either Battery.
I did climb underneath and did Spark out the rachet I had .. oops.. but then at least i know there was juice at least to there.
