Side Molding Variations

On my way home from work last Thursday, while I was stopped at a red light. I noticed a very nice looking 76 or 77 F-150 stopped just across from me on the opposite side of the red light. Of course being the big fan that I am of these trucks, I had no other choice other than to check it out! Just to see what the other guy had on his truck that I might like to see on my truck! Even though there were a few things I noticed that I might like to also do to my truck. There was one particular feature on this truck that I had never seen before. At least that is, not until this morning when I saw the same feature again on another truck.

The feature I'm talking about is a variation of the chrome trim package that runs end to end, within the recessed channel on the side of the truck .

While most of the other chrome trim packages I have ever seen on these trucks are the "standard" 1-1/2 to 2 inch wide chrome with a black center. Both of these trucks were equipped with a much wider type of chrome molding which came to a arrowhead type of point on the front fender of the truck.

From the type of grill inserts installed on both of these trucks. I can say with some amount of confidence that this particular chrome package was more than likely only offered by Ford on the 76 & 77 models.

Well, anyway I'm hoping there might be someone out there who can provide me with some additional information about this particular chrome trim package.

Although I'll gratefully accept any information on this trim package that anyone may be willing to offer. There are a few things in particular that I'd really like to find out about.

First thing I'll need to find out is if this wider type of side chrome was sold under any particular trim package name by Ford.

Second, I'd also like to find out if this type of chrome side trim was also offered and/or sold by Ford for the SuperCab models.

The last & most important thing of course, is to find out if anyone knows where I might be able to acquire a set of this style side molding for my 1975 SuperCab "Short bed" pick up!
One final item that would really help out a lot would be if anyone out there might happen to have any photo links of this style of molding on their truck that they could attach within a response to this posting. That way everyone could see exactly what I'm talking about!

Once again I cannot express enough how much I appreciate all the assistance provided by all the great people out there who are so willing to share their time, knowlege and most of all their expertise, with those of us who are "73-79 F-Series" challanged!

Thumbs up

Larry,
I know exactly which of the trim mouldings you are referring to. I have them.

They are a set of Ranger, XLT, Super Cab, SWB, St/Steel side mouldings w/ the "rubber" bump strip insert & racetrack option, that drops down around the wheel openings. It was a trim option on some models but I believe it was standard on the Ranger XLT Models.

The difficult parts are the Super Cab cab 1/4 extensions & Bed Side Mldgs on supercab "short bed" version & markerlights this model uses. Vast Majority of the S/C's were LWB or 8'-0" bed models. Short (SWB) Super Cabs were not very common.

I also have a bench type fold down rear seat that converts the rear, in cab area, into a cargo area. Private message me for more detailed info, or pix, if you're interested in this stuff.

You can do what you want with them

Besides these brochure sites, you can check with FTE sponsor sites to view the chrome trim they sell.

NPD is one of them that shows the chrome.
