Tinkling sounds are usually not good. Means somethings getting beat up somewhere. Any missing pieces you couldn't find on re-assembly?

no no missing pieces.Very confused.Nthing befor and tinkling after.Maybe wrong valve spring?Truck runs very strong and not much blue smoke.they say there are two type of valve springs rotunda and normal. The one i pulled had a white strip on it and one of the new ones had the same stripe so thats the one i put in.Any ideas.

My bet is leaning toward something binding or loose causing slack between the pushrod and rocker. That is the only metal light enough to make a tinkle sound.

Pabs, I sent you an email, but I forgot to include the type of "diesel additive" I use...
Howes [I think thats how you spell it] & Diesel Kleen...haven't found a real difference between the two. The secret, I belive, is to add it with every fill up, in fact Dave S. fills his fuel filter with a diesel additive every time he changes it, good advice, I think. I have also used Duralube Fuel Additive...real cheap at Real Canadian Superstore.

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Better pull the cover back off and check it out. Did that engine have the aluminum bridges between the rockers? They are pretty common to break if you tighten them down wrong.

Yes spectramac it does have the valve spacer or bracket.I'll have to see what happen.Noise is coming from pass side under valve cover it seems.

Thanks

The thermostat has to come from either Ford or International, the others are problems waiting for a place to happen.

I am also wondering, what was the tinkle sound?

Actually, the factory ford stats are rather problematic in my book. They have that rubber seal that tends to fall off and get stuck in the valve, holding it open. I used to change them out all the time and just throw one from Napa back in. Never had any problems with them. I went down to a 180* also and I can drive through the desert in over 100 degree heat with the camper and boat with my AC cranked.
