FRPP SCJA and SCJB Head Differences

Does anyone know what the differences are between the SCJA and SCJB heads? on the Ford Racing Parts website it says the SCJA is for 429/460 engine and the SCJB is for the 514 engine. Are the differences only because the 514 crate engine is a roller engine and the 460 crate engine is a flat tappet engine. If this is why, what are the differences? Is it just a spring difference or what? I couldn't find any info about it on the Ford Racing Parts site or Jon Kasse's site. Any info would be appreciated.

The B heads are the Kaase redesign. On the 521 stroker from the FRPP catalog the new heads were good for about a 50 HP increase.

Oops, gave you bad info on the last post.

The diff is valvetrain setup. The basic head is the same - the Kaase redesign. The A version is setup for the 460 crate engine that uses a flat tappet cam. The B version is for the 514 that uses a roller cam setup. The difference is in the valvesprings.

Thanks for the info Brad. I am doing research on building a 545 stroker big block. Trying to figure out which heads and cam to use that will give me the power in the RPM range I want. I was told that the Trick Flow street heads would be better for what I want than the FRPP heads. I still haven't found a flat tappet hydraulic cam that will do what I want. May have to bite it and go to a roller setup to get what I want. Oh well. Guess I'll have to save a little longer.

i was gonna go with trick flow's but after some reseach i found out that the frpp scj heads flow better out of the box and are cheaper also if you want to go roller check out doug herbert i went with a herbert roller billet cam and roller lifters and only spent around 450.00 and they seem to work very well 3 sesons on a pulling motor hitting 7000+rpms and still works very well. in case you want to check herberts the number is 800-444-7373

Great. Thanks alot. I am looking at a max RPM of about 6500 with as much torque as I can get. The flatter the torque curve the better. I have heard that the FRPP heads do flow better, but I don't know if thay would work the best for what I want. With a 545 though the extra flow of the FRPP heads may be better. Hell I don't know. I am so confused. Maybe by the time I can afford it I will know what I want. Got a Weiand Stealth CJ intake and a set of L&L headers that I also want to work with too.
