87 fuel problems won't start
The wifes oldest boy just phoned and said his 87 Ranger with a V6 won't start. He said he changed the plugs then it wouldn't start. The truck is in the city 45 miles away so I would like some thoughts of where to look for fuel problems. I believe fuel because he said when he poured gas in it, it fired and ran for a few seconds. I never asked if he was getting the fuel pump running sound when he turned on the ignition. Is it possible he knocked a wire off somewhere and if so which one? He also said he checked the inertia switch and reset that. Any thoughts before I have to drive into the city as I dont want to make the drive twice as it snowed last night.
Thanks in adavance
and it ran befor he changed the plugs & now no fuel I would look at the fuel pump relay! It should be on the passenger side fender well between the air cleaner & the fender.
There are 2 relays there 1 is the fuel pump & I have seen wires corrode off of them. If he disturbed the wireing doing the plugs then check the wires to those relays.
Or it is possible it could be the relay itself, have someone feel the relay when the key is turned you should feel it engage & disengage

I drove in and had a look after seaching on here and it was a ground wire that was plugged into an open plug, by the aircleaner housing. That when I looked here it talked about plugging this wire in here to empty the fuel tank as it keeps the fuel pump running. Now this is the way the truck was but it doesnt seem right. Also what is the odd looking fuse or fusable link coming from the ground side of the battery? Has this failed which is why the extra ground plugged in?
