Does anyone know how to remove and reinstall the key cylinder in a 55 F-100 pickup? This board saved my butt doing my 63 F-100. The 55 looks different.Thought I would try it on the 55, Thanks in advance.
Removal: Insert key. Turn to 1 o'clock position and push button down. Key should lock in that position. Pull complete cylinder out.
Installation: Check spring in center of angled slot in bottom of key way. Make sure it is not sideways. Insert key cylinder, push in and turnfrom 1 o'clock position to 12 o'clock. Button should pop up into hole in top of switch. Remove key.
It worked for me on my '56 and the switch is the same as far as I know. It does assume you have a key though and if you don't I think you'd have to do some drilling or see your local locksmith.
Craig, Does the procedure listed in the mid fifty catalog apply to the '51 ignition switch as well? I can not figure it out and I don't have a key.
Thanks,
Dan
To remove the cylinder on a 51. Insert key and turn to the on position. Push the little button in the middle of the switch and pull on the key. The Cylinder should come out. You will need the key to remove the cylinder.
Nathan,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what you mean by "the little button". Is there some sort of extra button or do you mean for me to push on the little chrome bezel that the key slides through. Sorry to be so daft. This probably won't work for me 'cause I don't have the key anyhow.
Dan
