Post 51 F1 needs C-4 floor shift?

My 302-C4 51 F1 needs a newer floor shift, as my old (Pinto) lever plastic reverse lockout has died. Anyone have any recommendations as to what to look for in the boneyard? I was told to get an early Aerostar lever, but it doesn't seem to have the right stuff. 'Liked the longer staff, though. Thanks, all.

I was gonna go with the lokar shifter, but it was a little pricey for me at the time. I instead went to a local Kragen, and bought a b&m long shifter. It was 35 bucks, and looks just like the Lokar. It isnt as fancy, but it looks great! (no reverse lockout though). Just a thought.

Do you have the part # for the B&M shifter? I looked thru their website to no avail...

I was also looking at the Lokar (the 23" nostalgia). I saw it in SOCAL's restomod 53 F100 (what a great truck) when I visited them in Phoenix. I also looked a Gennie but at same price would prefer the Lokar. However, with my budget over the edge already I'd also like to see a real budget solution. I have no shifter right now and there's no junk yards with US cars over here !!!

kai, after looking through your gallery. you have put a lot of time and money into your truck so i would definately spend the money on a lokar or gennie shifter. it will make a big difference..

rc,

... yeah, sure would like to use the Lokar. It seems to be the best. However, always opting for the best is going to kill everyone's budget. And mine for sure, as I have to have stuff airmailed to Germany (unless I can carry it myself returning from the US). I am still undecided and hope we'll hear more about low cost alternatives here. Anyone out there with more ?

Greetings from Germany ! :-)

Mr.Gasket makes a nice shifter (part# 7622?), its long like the lokar, but not as nice. I went with it, because Im broke, and it looks great, and works good. It was $35 new! Nothing special however, and no reverse lockout..beware!

'forder,

... can't find that MrGasket shifter you mentioned. I visited their Web Site and there's only one listed. It is partnumber 7668 and as far as I understand just 11" long (vs. 23" for the nostalgia Lokar). I then checked the price at Summit and they want $ 62.99 for it. That's double compared to what you mentioned. Please enlighten me on what you actually have. Thanx.

Greetings from Germany !

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Oct-02 AT 07:22 PM (EST)]Well Kai,
I just went out, and looked at the box and sure enough, its part #7668, and 11" long. With the skull that I have on it as a ****, it almost goes to the bottom of my steering wheel, which is pretty comfortable. The lokar must go way up there, hehe, cool. I did pay 35.99 for it at "Kragen". If its 60 bucks at summit, I suggest you look around. It is a good shifter though.

'forder,

... Thanx for the pic. Looks OK to me. :-)

Just checked Kragen on the Web. They list the 7668 at $59.99 and all other shops that I checked are $70+. You are one lucky man. :-)

Now, when you say 'no reverse lock out', does that mean you can shift from D into R by mistake (i.e. when your knee hits the shifter) ? ... or is there any mean that would prevent this ?

Greetings from Germany !!!

Yeah, you could. BUT you would have to go through Neutral to get it into drive, I doubt your knee would hit it that hard, you would really have to slam on it. It wont do that.
