1996 f 150,i have two broken springs on the drivers side, have new ones to put in,but need a little help on how to put them in.I did it before, but was about 20 years ago.Can i unbolt the rearend from the spring assembly,or do i have to take the whole assembly off of the frame. The main spring is ok,its the middle 2 that are broke.
It's been a while for me too, and I'm actually about to do the same to my truck.. but I believe all you need to do is take the center bolt out that goes through all the springs, and then undo the U bolts. Make sure you soak everything down with PB blaster first a couple days before. Hate to see ya break the U bolts.
with car jacked up and on the jack AND resting on a jack stand you need to get under the truck and kick the tire off. rotate it once in a while with heavy boots on works the best.
Had the same problem the other night. I literally had to loosen all the lug nuts about 1/4 off, back the truck out of the garage, hook a tow strap across the top of the tire, hook the other end of the strap to my ranger and pull the truck sideways by the tire. It popped off, but you gotta be careful not to break brake lines (like I did) and don't go too hard or you'll be the rim. Make sure the strap is touching nothing but tire on the back side. You don't have the center caps on your wheels do ya? Me niether...
