6.9 wont start
welll
it was running okay... it shakes alot, i think one cylinder isnt firing
anyways, i was driving, merging into freeway, floored it, went thru 1st, 2nd, then 3rd
and all of a sudden, 3rd felt like a wall, i left off, truck slowed down, then i give gas, and it slowed down quicker with gas on, and it kept slowing down, so i pulled over, and it died.
now i cant get it started
what happened?

Best to see if the lift pump is pushing 4-6 psi while cranking, check at the Schrader valve (core removed) with a pressure/vacuum guage. What was the tank fuel level, if under 1/3 you probably have a broken off fuel pickup screen. Fill the tank to be used to over 1/3 min.

the tank is full.
the weird thing was, before, i was going up a hill and i was flooring it, and suddenly it lost power, i was like... what the hell, so i let off, and then didnt floor it for a bit,a nd the power came back.
is it possible that it flooded?

My 85 6.9 started acting like that last month, and within a couple of days just wouldn't run. Ended up being the IP.
Hope that is not same in your case.
Felt like it was starting to run out of fuel, but would pick up if the throttle was backed off coming up the hill. Was doing that for a couple of days, changed fuel filter, checked the lift pump, OK. Later just wouldn't run past a rough idle and the die. IP changed and up and ran. (still working on minor air leaks)

it is a 86, i believe.
i hope it isnt the injector pump... if it is, it is getting parted...
it blows lots of black smoke though when i floor it, so i thought that meant its getting enough fuel... ?

Since a diesel engine speed is controlled by the amount of fuel injected, either to much or not enough is not good.
You could check to see if you are getting fuel at the schrader valve on the filter while someone cranks the engine over.
My bet is the IP died though.

well, i bought a new truck...
the 86 is a pretty beat, body wise, (shot brakes), someone hit the front right fender and the front right control arm rear bolt to chassis thing snapped half off, so it never drives straight
it had been parked somewhere near the freeway... maybe ill pick it up sometime...
anyone want to buy it for $500?
