Not sure whether this or the V10 section would have been better! I have a 1999 E450 Superduty based Class C RV (converted to run on propane/gas). I need to change the spark plugs to try to get rid of a misfire on propane when pulling. It looks to be nearly impossible to get at them. To make things worse, much of the propane conversion equipment is positioned straight over the plugs. Disregarding that, can anyone give me a step by step guide to changing the plugs, please? In particular, what needs to be removed before I can make a start? I'm aware of the potential problems with plugs popping out, so want to do it right, but at the moment can't see how I can do it at all! As I'm in the UK, I've never worked on a remotely similar engine before, so any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
I would imagine the E-class is much harder to change, but on my f-250 v-10 I had to use a lot of swivels and extentions to get to a couple of the plugs, and I am sure my engine bay has a lot more room than yours. I have realized with a lot of the new fords you have to get creative to get the plugs out. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but make sure you have plenty of swivels and extentions, it will make it a bit easier.
There is several great posts regarding changing the spark plugs on the V-10 forum, do a search, I think you will be pleased with the results. Good Luck.
Thanks for the replies! I had already spent quite a bit of time searching but have done so again, and found some more info., including photos. What I haven't been able to find is info. specifically relating to my E450 which seems amazingly short of room. I'll post now in the V10 section, and see whether I can come up with any info which is vehicle specific.
I dont know about changing V10 plugs in a van, but when I change plugs in E350's, I pull the rear cover in the cab and change through there. It is basically impossible to change them from the front. On 460's there is no room to get a socket to the plugs. It took me a half hour to get the front plug out.
Looks pretty well impossible from anywhere! The first one on the drivers side would be quite easy from inside the cab, after that I'm not convinced, waiting for a reply from someone who has already done the job!
Years ago on my Dads Dodge motorhome we removed the tires and fender liners. Made the job fairly easy. Dont know if this is an option for you or not. Philip.
Could be an option, I wondered about that! Anything would be worth considering. just putting it back together for now as I need to use it this weekend - afterwards I'll have a look!
