91 Explorer 4wd troubleshooting
Hello,
What is the first thing to check if my 4wd does not engage?
No dash light- no anything.
Trying to find it in a book seems futile!

Fuses first...
Then you will have to test to see where power is and where it is or is not getting to.
Relays are a common failure as well.
Use a test light to determine where you have the power to and where you no longer get it.
A couple of tests I would do first is, see if you have power at the 4X4 engagement motor. If so, you know it is getting there and the motor may be stuck. If so, tap it with a mallet as it is common to get a rust ring from sitting all summer long with no use.
If no power, go back to the relay and test it there...

Thanks! A look through my manual doesn't help- where is the relay located?
The 4x4 engagement motor isn't there either (or I can't decypher the book)-
Is there a tech article you can refer me to?
