What I did to wake up my 302, was to install a dual plane aluminum intake from Weiand, a 650CFM Holley carb w/ vacuum secondaries, and RV cam from Wolverine. This combination gives you good low end torque and good highway performance. I also installed a set of E7TE heads off of a mustang and will be adding 2-1/2" dual exhaust and headers to complete the upgrade. Don't make the mistake of putting a larger carburator than a 650 w/ vac secondaries or your low end performance will suffer. If you plug in the pertinent info into a CFM calculator you will find that a 302 with these mods requires less than 400CFM. That is why I suggest you get the four bbl w/ vac secondaries, because it will give the engine what it needs as you are just cruising around town and it will give you the extra flow/power when you need it.
Good luck with your project.
