Im working on building up a new 460 for my 79 F150. My problem is that i got a wicked crazy deal on a bottom end assembly, its for a externaly ballenced engine. I had bought a engine out of a 77 because it was very low millage, and still stock bore size with walls in increadbly great shape, this is also why i bought the bottom end from this fellow, because it came with brand new ford racing pistons in stock bore size. It also came with a brand spankin new never instaled crank. My quetion is, can i run this crank, made for externaly ballenced, in my 77 block..internaly ballenced as im sure most of you know, if i use my spacer with the wing thingy on it from my 79s externaly ballencing set up...Some help would be greatly appriciated
you can run it just be shure the get the rotating assembly balanced crank, rods.flywheel, balancer, and pistons call around alot of places do balanceing now it should cost around 2-300.00 but well worth it your motor will run smother and longer
ive been crusing this section for like a hour now, and found a tread saying something about th external ballenced engines having longer cyl. skirts or soemting??????? i dont see why this would be but more imput, or personal exsperience with this would be great
The 79 and later externally balanced engines ran a longer cyl wall for more piston support in the truck engines at BDC. It is also a major advantage when building strokers IMHO so that you don't end up with piston rock but the early blocks are ok too.
Just a suggestion. In my car craft Mag they did a 500 Hp 466 (.030 over). 9.0-1 comp.
all top end was edelbrock. Rpm air gap intake $330, RPM cj heads $960 ea., performer cam kit $137, harland sharp 1.73 rockers $215, Arp head bolts $105.95, Holley 750 carb $396. $3000. total Edelbrock sells their parts as a kit that is rated at 514 hp and 565 ft/lb at 4,400 R's. The test engine did exactley that. The Mag used stock components except
for speed pro forged pistons. Just giving you some suggestions. Dont know what exaclty you were looking for as a build.
