My drivers side window is getting harder and harder to roll down but, I have noticed that it is easy if it is raining outside. But once the window is dry it was hard to roll down again. I have narrowed it down to the farthest back gasket on the door. The longest side of the window. Is there anything I can lubricate this gasket with?
I've been using spray silicone with good results. The stuff is pretty thin, so you will have to spray a lot into the channel, all up and down. Use the little tube that comes with the can to reach into the part of the channel that is below the window line.
I would go with the silicone spray as well, that stuff stays where you put it. It is excellent as a lubricant, and it is stable in various weather conditions.
The main advantage of silicon is because petroleum-based lubricants (i.e. oil) will break down rubber and plastic. Silicon is safe on gaskets, and even preserves them a little from the elements.
While you are at it, put it on the door and tailgate gaskets. It will help them last longer and prevent sticking.
silicone spray also keeps the door gaskets from freezing us out here in the north snow ski country
liberal soaking dose early winter lasts until ice out
got a window glass side rail full of dust, crud and grit? remove inner cover in summer and spray side rails with fine hose nozzle and let dry
then the silicone clear grease and silicone spray
i've found that the silicone spray works better than lithium spray grease on the sliding door electrical contacts also....just have to do more often....does not collect dirt and debris as much as lithium g.
