anyone really into sleds? i started lookin at a couple this week since it is almost winter!
ive never owned one before but ive driven a few so im lookin at something under 7 grand
im looking at sleds that are 05 and up... since it is my first sled im thinkin something a bit smaller and cheaper and most likely sell it next year and bump up the power!! im debating between an arctic cat z series 570 and polaris indy 500, both are just above 6 grand and should be perfect for my first sled
I've sledded all my life, sold my cat last winter cause I just never used it enough. Probably get one next winter again when I'm living in the country.
I say go with the Cat!!!
93PGT, The Z570 is great little fan cooled sled, but for a little more cash you should look at the all 'new' F5(cat). All new twin spar chassis, better ergonomics, fit and finish. You should be able to find one around $6,800.
I have been sledding for the last 15 years. We have had 11 different sleds in those 15 years. All of the sleds were ski-doo's and the biggest problem we ever had was a motor mount broke on our '93 mach 1 670 with 4000 miles on it. As long as you keep them stock they are good, it's when you start playing around that you start having troubles. I ride a '00 MXZ 700, that is when I get a chance to ride it. Its bake home at my in-laws be cause I have no room for it here in Regina.
Im a skidoo man myself too. I have had mostly older ones, but they have all been pretty good. The indy sled would be a nice sled. I have had a few buddies that didnt like the cats, but personally im not sure bout them. I would get a god used mx 470 if I were you
My wife got me into sleds a few years back. She was a Polaris girl so that is what I got. It is a Indy Lite 600 triple, more than fast enough for me for under $2000, most guys around here have skidoo's, don't see to many Cats or Yamaha's
Both of those sleds would be very nice to own. I'm a skidoo guy and have had very little problems with them. Skidooman is right, you keep it stock and they provide years of fun for relatively cheap. As a former mechanic we've had lots of customers with brand new ones modify them, ride on the weekend and fix on Monday.
Not to turn this into the classified section but I have a 1997 Skidoo Formula Z 583 for sale, under 3000km and MINT. PM me if anyone is interested.
As a side not my stock 1999 Polaris 440 has 10600 MILES on it.
For praire riding a 570 or 440 would be more than adaquate and if you are a novice rider also.
I have often considered buying a early nineties polaris, they seem to last along time, and tehy sometimes come cheap. I would love to get a newer skidoo, but the prices of them is just nuts right now.
For sure i would love a sled or even a quad or dirtbike i love those things if i save some money i would like to get one but we will have to see so many things i want these days
I haven't rode a sled for quite a while now. Growin up we had 3, a 72 Ski-doo TNT 292 single, a 72 Arctic Cat Lynx I think with a 295 Wankel, and a 82 Moto-ski 464. The odometer quit workin on the Moto-Ski at 9500, and we rode it for at least 3 years after, so it's probly around 11000 or 12000. Engine still runs too, it's in a dune buggy. Always got mixed 100:1 as well as the oil injection.
Personally, I'm a Ski-doo man, but am comin around to the 4 stroke Yammy's. Somethin about getting 30,000km plus out of a sled seems appealing.
