There is a switch for your brake lights mounted on the pedal arm. They usually cost about $20, If you disconnect it and jump the wires it should tell you if the switch is bad. There is also a switch on your tranny that activates the reverse lights as well as being a neutral/safety switch. I just spent $30 to replace the one on my C6.
Since the turnsignals work, that means the wiring and the bulbs are good from the steering column to the rear. The turnsignals and the brakes use the same circuit in the rear.
If you have a high mount third brake light, and it works, that means the pedal switch and the fuse is ok too. If it doesn't work, and you checked the fuses, then you can take a meter and check the switch on the pedal.
After the pedal switch, the signal goes up the steering column to the turnsignal switch. We know you are good after that since the turnsignals worked.
