More silly nonsense from me, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask before I proceed.
Does anyone think there'd be any clearance issues (oil pan) when mounting a 215/223 straight-six using the stock mounts on a truck that has a MII or some other kind of crossmember? It looks like there'd be room but aren't these always famous last words?
JT, the engine you are looking at to buy came from a 56 with a Volare'. I also know a guy that put a Volare' and 300 I-6 in a 1950 Studebaker truck. It is a do-able swap.
223 Update - Mike must not check his email often. However, he did finally reply to me Sunday night with a price on what he wanted for the 223+T5. I replied back Monday morning to say that the price was fine and to ask when would be a good time to come get the engine. No reply yet, heh. I guess I'll just try calling him tonight and quit this email foolishness.
There probably would be clearance problems since the 215/223 is an 'I' block design with deep side skirts like Y-blocks and FE's. The sump isn't much deeper than the rest of the pan, unlike most modern designs. I've thought about going independent and using a 300. It should bolt in place of a small block pretty easy since swapping a small block in place of a 240/300 is pretty simple.
54: Well, as truckfarmer mentioned, the 223 I am buying was pulled from a '56 Effie that has a Volare clip in it. So I am thinking, I should be ok with a Heidt's crossmember.
The oilpan/skirt on the 215/223/262 doesn't seem to be that tall at all.
