I saw a set of projector lights on ebay, and was very interested in buying a set. I was wondering if anyone had some pictures, or opinions about them...
The general rule of thumb for parts on ebay are.... if its on ebay, its crap! I assume you dont have the moola for the swap to HID, so my only recommendation would be some Sylvania Silverstars or some equivalent.
I dont think the style goes well with the truck, the lenses are just too small for such a large headlamp. Plus, some of those ebay ones have a really goofy bulge in them, that you cant see in the pics.
I just installed a set of Silverstars on mine. All I can say is WOW! I had Silverstars on my Expedition and they were nice. I missed them when they were gone. I found out that the Silverstars were available for our trucks now and immediately went and purchased a set. Huge improvemnet over the stock bulbs. No more yellow low beams! Save your $$$ and put in a set of Silverstars with Chrome turn signal bulbs.
I haven't gotten high beamed with the Silverstars but if I do god help them! They are BRIGHT! I also have the fog light defeat relay bypassed so the fogs stay on with the high beams. It is like looking into the sun with the high beams on and the fogs! I am usually a nice guy if someone does flash me... I will just hit them for a quick second to let them know I don't have them on. I have had some oncoming traffic not turn off thier high beams and I flash them once. If they don't dim I give it to them full force..... they usually dim them after about 10 seconds but by then they are seeing spots!
I have the projectors on mine, mine do have the bulge in them(that I don't care for), They do do the look I was going for (all black) and they are quite bright. If they were affordable I'd probably have done the harley edition lights with silverstars, But I really couldn't justify over 300 for just factory headlights in black..150 maybe....

Have you had any problems with over-heating? Meaning the connectors or the wiring harness? I have read some horror stories of people ending up with burned wires and melted connectors when using aftermarket bulbs.
Also, are the Silverstar the same wattage as stock?

Hey 4x4freak...
How did you go about bypassing the fog light defeat relay? That has been bothering me since i bought my truck. Is it safe? I guess the most that will happen is the circuit breaker will go...right?
use a relay. the "trigger" wire is the hot wire for your head-lights. then take a feed off the battery to the input on the relay and put the wire to the fog light at the switched position. just make sure the fog light can take the full voltage of the battery
Ok here's the deal, The Silverstars are made by Sylvania. They are the stock wattage and they do not melt anything. I ran them in my Expedition for over 4 years with zero problems. They do throw out an almost blue light but they are white when you look at them. They are way up on the light scale and work great.
As far as the high beams and fog modification, Tylus.... you're thinking too hard. It's not that complicated. THer is already a relay in place and it is as easy as removing your kick panel from the passenger side of the truck. Remove the fog light relay and bend the ground pin over the edge of the relay and hook a wire to it and run it to ground outside the fuse box. I got the information on this fron F-150online. It takes all of 5 min to do it. It works great and once again.... zero problems! Check it out for your self.
Tylus, also you must remember, you're not dealing with a simple lighting system on these trucks. It is a lot more complex than you think it is. I have had this modification done for 9 months now with no problems. It is much easier than the previous generation mod was. It is also much simpler to understand, there is no ramp switch to grind down and there is no wiring that needs to be cut and spliced into another wire. Just remove the relay, bend the terminal over on it and hook a wire to it and ground it. It is really that simple! I think if you start cutting and splicing and adding relays to this system plus an extra power wire you're gonna fry something!
